Paddle at the Point is part of Pittsburgh’s World Environment Day celebration!
Pittsburgh has been selected by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as the host city for World Environment Day 2010 in North America. This year’s theme is “Biodiversity — Ecosystems Management and the Green Economy.”
World Environment Day events will take place during the six weeks that “bridge the gap” between Earth Day on April 22 and World Environment Day on June 5.
The selection of Pittsburgh by UNEP is a testament to the area’s commitment to environmental and sustainability issues ranging from energy and resource conservation to the protection of waterways, ecosystems and green spaces. In Pittsburgh, World Environment Day 2010 will be a region-wide celebration, with activities taking place around the city and throughout Allegheny County and other surrounding counties.

We can’t wait!
You need a thermometer meter with the goal number and actual sign-ups so we all know how may we have when we check the site.
Hi Amy,
Thanks for your enthusiasm! Lots of folks have gotten mighty psyched! As of the evening of May 19, 1,000 people have signed up! But we still need a couple hundred more people! Please encourage family and friends to sign up, too. Everyone who registers will be entered into a raffle of ticket to the city’s sporting and cultural events.
My boyfriend and I want to come out and canoe with everyone at this event on June 5th! We are newbies and have been so interested in canoeing for a while! We also want to go to the cleanup on the Furnace Trail that morning, which ends at 12noon. Could we still come out after that?
Hi Sami, I’m afraid that you’ll miss the attempt if you show up after 12 noon. We will be rafting up and getting ready for the official record attempt by then. If you’d like to participate, we recommend that boat owners arrive between 9 – 11 am to prep their gear. Boat renters should arrive between 9 – 10 am to get outfitted and get in place on the water on time.
Oh okay. Thank you for telling me! It’s really too bad that those two events overlap; I’d really like to participate in both.
