Saturday, June 5th is shaping up to be a great day for the city of Pittsburgh. People across the region will be celebrating World Environment Day in different ways.
Currently over 1,300 boats and many more people are signed up to help break a World Record on the waters of Downtown Pittsburgh. If you’re keeping track, YES, that’s more then the previous records set in New York and Cleveland! Great job everyone!
Registrations are still rolling in, and we hope you’ll keep spreading the word. We’re aiming to break the record by several hundred; we want Pittsburgh’s World Record to last!

I’m so excited. The weather is so hot that I can’t wait to get this started. I’m so glad there will be more positive press for this great city.
So far I have 2 people coming with me and my mom and her bf might bring their canoe and join as well. They registered but didn’t get a confirmation email.
Just in case anyone else out there wants to help another great cause. Avon has been planting trees in the South American Atlantic Rainforest. So far they donated a million trees and from April until the end of May they are accepting $1 donations to plant one more tree. I believe the fundraiser lasts for several more months but they are announcing the first number from the first few months on World Environment Day. If you want to donate $1 to their Hello Green Tomorrow campaign just go to AndreaBoone.AvonRepresentative.com —> Click Fundraising —> Click relief efforts. It’s just $1 no tax/ship cost.
Just saw the weather forecast and they’re calling for a.m. thunderstorms in Pgh. Do you have alternate plans for this occurrence?
Hi Debbie: If conditions are unsafe because of weather or river flow, the record attempt will be made the following Saturday, June 12.
My family will be joining me this weekend. I have my own kayak and was planning on going in at the Mon Wharf, but with them coming, I’d like them to be able to see the action. If we park at Heinz field, will I still be able to sign in with the renters, and launch from there? I know it’s a longer carry, but i would hate for my family to sit under the mon wharf for 2 hrs while I get to paddle. Where would some good vantage points be?
Hi Mary: Yes, you can launch from Heinz Field. Parking is free in lots #1 and #2. The views will be far superior from Heinz Field. The platform where the Fred Rogers Memorial is should offer a good vantage.
