Last week was a flurry of activities surrounding Paddle at the Point. On Monday registration was just over 600 and climbing steadily every day. On Tuesday Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl called the region to join him at Paddle at the Point, saying:
“Having Pittsburgh named as Most Livable City once again is a testament to our region’s environmental and economic transformation,” said the Mayor. “Paddle at the Point demonstrates our return to the rivers as a destination for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and relaxation. What a better way to demonstrate this than by rallying our citizens at our remarkable rivers to help the City of Champions break a world record.”
After that registrations really started rolling in. Wednesday we passed 700 and by the end of the day Friday–800!
Right now we’re closing in on 900 participants! Great job spreading the word, lets keep this momentum going! Paddle at the Point is just three short weeks and a few hundred people away from setting a new world record!

hi…..after doing the math, the time it will take to launch 1100 + boats would be much more than 1 hour!
(unless you can launch 18-19 boats per minute?!?) soooo, i was wondering about the registration/boat drop off/launch process and exactly what the plan is? specifically, are there going to be multiple launch sites available? where will the registration area be? what do you mean by boat drop off? thanks!
Hi Neil,
We are asking boat renters to arrive at the Heinz ramp (the one that leads out of the open end of the the stadium) between 9 -10 am. Check in is a simple matter of finding your name on a roster and getting you a PFD. Boats will be ready at the water’s edge. If you are bringing a boat, the routine is similar but we’d like you to park at the Mon Wharf: Arrive between 9 – 10 am, check in, and put in.
